Puglia: For out of Bari…
Old Port in Bari
For out of Bari, the Torah will come forth, and the word of the Lord from Otranto …” (Medieval saying)
I am pleased to announce the launch of my latest trip. This year, I am planning to visit Puglia, on the southern tip of Italy.
Sites include Bari, Lecce, Trani and Gallipoli, as well as many other small villages and towns. The tour offers picturesque towns, Italian food, wine, and culture, along with rich Jewish history in a friendly environment. Learn about the unique role in saving Jewish refugees after the Second World War.
You will love this destination!
Legend has it that when Titus returned to Rome after destroying the Temple, he brought 100,000 slaves with him. The first port he landed at was in Bari, where he left 5000 people. This became the first Jewish community in Italy.
Puglia has hosted Jewish communities since those days. Its quaint towns and villages accommodated major centres of Torah scholarship and thriving communities that had an impact far beyond their shores. The story of the Jews in Puglia is the latest chapter in the Jewish Journeys offering.
Sites visited wil include Bari, Lecce, Trani and Gallipoli, as well as many smaller villages and towns. The tour will combine picturesque towns, Italian food, wine and culture with a rich Jewish history, all in a friendly environment.
There will be three trips in the coming year.
15-18 November, 2026
14-18 March, 2027
16-20 May, 2027
The cost of the trip in November is £865 per person in a double/twin room. The trips in March and May will cost £895 per person in a twin/Double. There is a single supplement of £250. This includes hotels, transportation, guides, entrance fees and breakfasts. Other meals during the week are not included. In addition to the choice of many local restaurants, there will be a strictly kosher food option on this trip. Details are available on request.
To secure your place, a £150 deposit is required.
There is a lot of interest in this trip, and spaces will be allocated on a 'first-come, first-served' basis.
I look forward to spending time with you in Puglia.
